Specialist supplier of metal rainwater, roofline, drainage and architectural products, Rainclear has become one of the UK’s leading B2B and B2C suppliers. Unlike many others, they hold a substantial amount in stock and also supply high-quality rainwater products from premium manufacturers.
The Problem
Rainclear’s legacy site was in urgent need of core updates to improve site speed and ensure their legislative consumer and commercial waste disposal compliance.
With a premium product range, at a very competitive price point, they approached Actuate to refresh their site with the ultimate aim of delivering sustained, and continued growth, despite the national cost of living economic crisis.
The advanced elements available on the Magento 2 platform would eliminate the current site restrictions of the old modules, which were impacting the overall user experience. Performance and site speed was a significant issue that may well have seen visitors, reaching for the back button.
Our challenge was to ensure the site provided a fast, seamless procurement experience for both direct consumers and trade accounts, whilst simultaneously delivering a simple CMS.
Rainclear would need full control of the site, so products could be uploaded and updated quickly and easily.
How we Helped.
Previously, products could only be added via a separate resources site, which made management cumbersome and time-consuming. We streamlined this process, bringing this all under the new platform’s CMS.
The new customer-centric redesign was created using the Breeze framework. Our eCommerce developers capitalised on the built-in functionality and additional capabilities of Magento 2, whilst adding several advanced modules to boost performance. The new site migration resulted in a massive improvement in their Lightspeed score – a metric evaluating the online store’s performance, user experience, speed, and overall effectiveness.
We didn’t stop there, to improve the user experience even further, we integrated the WordPress Resource website into the Magento platform, which, by extension also reduced the need for multiple servers and therefore the cost to the client.
Site Audit & Strategy Development.
By undertaking a complete audit of the legacy site, we analysed the backend, code base and user experience. The initial project was to migrate the platform, transitioning all modules to the enhanced versions to deliver greater functionality, site speed and stability for the customer. However, the day-to-day management of the site needed to be far more efficient for the Rainclear team.
Seamless Integration
We implemented a seamless integration with WordPress, ensuring that both platforms work together flawlessly to deliver a unified experience. This integration allows for easy management of content alongside product listings, streamlining workflows for the team and improving efficiency. The seamless connection between Magento and WordPress also enables consistent branding and messaging across the entire site, providing a cohesive user experience that’s both functional and visually appealing.
With this setup, the site serves as a one-stop shop for both knowledge and products. Customers can easily access detailed product information, tutorials, blog content, and helpful resources—all in one place. This not only enhances the customer experience by offering valuable insights but also encourages longer site visits and higher engagement.
What did this mean for Rainclear?
Naturally, the cost-of-living crisis impacted consumer spending, contributing to a knock-on effect to the building trades. Rainclear’s new website launched just as the UK’s economic crisis was at its peak. At this time, global eCommerce sales were down 19.24% – with average website conversion rates falling by 13.27% year-on-year.
Following the launch, Rainclear received more online orders than the previous year, with the data showing continued growth as the UK economy started its slow recovery.
