Systematic UX improvements and CRO work turned more of the right visitors into customers.
Smarter product discovery and a clearer customer journey encouraged higher-value purchases.
Stripping out app bloat and dead weight left a faster, leaner store.
AutoID had built one of the most trusted names in premium vehicle styling, with a 4.85/5 rating from more than 2,300 reviews, but by the time they called us their organic rankings had collapsed and conversion was sliding.
Their catalogue runs to thousands of parts, from body kits and carbon fibre to wheels and exhausts, for BMW, Audi, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz and Tesla. The site had grown slow, the traffic had gone, and nobody could tell them why.
AutoID run on Shopify Plus, and our Shopify Plus development team keep it fast and converting.
We found it on the very first call. Every bit of metadata on the site had been stripped out, so product pages, collection pages and key landing pages were all invisible to search engines. That explained the collapse in rankings and the traffic that went with it.
It wasn’t the only problem. We ran a full NNP audit of the site’s performance, usability and commercial effectiveness, and it found three more things holding conversion down: navigation that made finding the right part hard work, pages slow enough to lose people before they’d started browsing, and product pages that weren’t closing the sale.
So we put together a programme of work to fix all of it, one priority at a time.
“What impressed us most was how quickly Actuate identified the root cause. Within the first call they’d spotted the metadata issue that had been tanking our traffic. Everything that followed has been just as sharp.”
Over years of trading, AutoID’s Shopify Plus store had collected a graveyard of third-party apps. Some were out of date, some did the same job as another, and plenty did nothing except add load time. It’s one of the most common problems we see on established Shopify stores, and every script you don’t need slows every page down.
We audited every app on the store, kept the ones earning their keep and cut the rest. The cull was big and the impact was immediate: pages now load 38% faster.
If your Shopify store has grown over several years and nobody has audited the app stack, it’s almost certainly costing you money.
AutoID sell thousands of parts across dozens of makes, models and generations, so the navigation decides whether someone finds the part for their car or leaves.
Customers were getting lost in the old navigation, taking too many clicks to reach the right part or giving up. We rebuilt the mega navigation from scratch around three ways in, shop by car, shop by brand and shop by product type, so however someone browses they reach the right part in as few clicks as possible.
The product page is where the buying decision happens. Or doesn’t. Our audit found AutoID’s product pages weren’t doing enough to build confidence, so we’ve been improving them step by step, making sure customers can be certain a part is right for their car before they buy. The work’s ongoing, with new UX flows being built now to push conversion further.
AutoID’s rewards programme should have been a strong reason to come back, but the benefits were unclear and the sign-up process lost people before they joined. We redesigned it so the value is obvious straight away: what you get, how it works and why it’s worth joining. Sign-ups have been stronger since.
Conversion is up 9.92% and average order value 6%, on a store that loads 38% faster, and the traffic that disappeared with the metadata has come back. What started as an urgent call about vanishing traffic is now a retainer, with a call every fortnight, a full CRO audit every three months and a plan for the quarter ahead.
Fixing the metadata put AutoID’s product and collection pages back in front of search engines, and the qualified traffic came back with them.
The app audit stripped out years of bloat and cut load times by 38%. The store runs on what it needs, so it’s quicker for customers and easier for the team to look after.
The rebuilt navigation, stronger product pages and clearer membership offer have taken conversion up 9.92% and average order value up 6%, and the CRO work is still going.
