Shopify Subscriptions

Subscriptions built into how people shop, with no bolt-on feel

We’re a Shopify and Shopify Plus agency for brands doing £2m or more online, and a Shopify Select Partner. We build subscriptions into stores whose products run out. If you’d rather talk it through in person, we’re right next to Piccadilly station in Manchester.

Your customers already buy the same thing every few weeks, or they should. But the subscribe option sits in a small box on the product page, it’s a pain to change a delivery date, and customers cancel because that’s easier than skipping a month.

So we build subscriptions into the shopping experience from the product page through to the customer account. Staying signed up should be easier than leaving.

Most projects start with an NNP Workshop, which gives you a ranked list of what to fix and what each fix is worth.

Is your product right for subscriptions?

Start here, because plenty of products aren’t.

Subscriptions work when a product gets used up on a predictable schedule, and when your customer would rather not think about reordering. Beauty, supplements, pet food and coffee are the obvious ones. A sofa isn’t. If people only buy once or twice a year, a good reminder email will probably do more for you, and we’ll tell you so.

What do we build?

The offer on the page

Subscribe and one-off purchase sit side by side on the product page, with the saving and the delivery schedule easy to see. Customers should understand what they’re signing up to before they tap anything.

1

The app and the checkout

We help you choose a subscription app that fits, then set it up with your theme and checkout. On Shopify Plus, ReCharge is one of the options we integrate.

2

The customer account

This is where subscriptions get kept or lost. Customers need to skip, swap, change the date or update their card without emailing you.

3

The emails around it

Renewal reminders and failed payment messages stop plenty of avoidable cancellations. We set these up with your email platform, so your team can keep improving them.

4

Your stock and fulfilment

Recurring orders have to reach your warehouse or ERP the same way as any other order. Our eCommerce integrations page covers how we connect those.

Revitalash

What did this get RevitaLash?

RevitaLash’s lash serums and conditioners work through weeks and months of consistent use, so subscriptions are how the product’s meant to be bought. HaparGrace took on the UK licence and needed a store with subscriptions from day one.

We built them into the core of the shopping experience on Shopify Plus, and the store went live in six weeks. Recurring revenue started at launch. It converted at 3.6% from day one, and UK sales went up 15%.

Already running subscriptions on Shopify?

Then the questions are different. Which step are people cancelling at? How many failed payments are you recovering? Are subscribers getting a better deal than one-off buyers, and does your margin survive it?

We can look at all of that as part of an NNP Workshop. If you’re changing subscription app, tell us early, because moving active subscribers needs careful planning.

Frequently Asked Questions.

Ask my question

Shopify has its own Subscriptions app, and there are several third-party options such as ReCharge. Which fits depends on how complicated your offer is, so check the current features before you commit.

It depends on your plan, your offer and how much control you need over the customer account. We’ll compare the options against what you sell before recommending one.

Not necessarily. Subscriptions run on standard Shopify plans too. Plus earns its cost for other reasons, like higher limits and more checkout control.

Yes. You don’t need a new store. We’d add the offer to your product pages, set up the app and connect the customer account and emails.

Yes, but it needs planning, because active subscribers and their saved payment details have to move safely. Tell us early and we’ll scope it before you commit.

Products that get used up on a predictable schedule, such as beauty, supplements, pet food and coffee. If people only buy once or twice a year, subscriptions probably aren’t the right tool.
